worship: our heart and soul

Worship is the heart and soul of who we are and what we do at Historic St. George’s. It is our primary reason for being.

We praise God with music. We explore the sacred story of the Old and New Testaments. We gather at font and table. We weave song and prayer, scripture and sermon. We share joys and concerns in prayer for others and ourselves. We extend the greeting of peace and hospitality to all with us. We break the bread and share the cup, opening ourselves to the outpouring of God’s love amid us and through us to the world around us. We leave refreshed, renewed, strengthened and challenged by being together with God and one another. We enjoy a social time with food and conversation at coffee hour after services.

Our services blend the rich tradition of classic United Methodist liturgy and music with contemporary prayers, songs and preaching.

We celebrate holy communion each week. Everyone is welcome. We come to the Lord’s Table and not a table of our own. Wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, whatever your church membership, status or background, there is a place at the Lord’s Table for you. We believe holy communion expresses the great promise of God’s unconditional love and encourages us to demonstrate that love toward one another.

Our accomplished church organist, Dominic Silla, offers special music for each service with the help of soloists from the congregation and the community.
