welcome to historic st. george's

Welcome to Historic St. George’s Web site. What you’ll find here is a blend of old and new.

We are an active and growing congregation rooted in Methodist heritage forged in this very building since 1769. We believe in a theology of love and inclusion, in personal transformation by faith and in putting God’s love to work in our community and in the world around us.

As the cradle of American Methodism and as part of the “most historic square mile in America,” we welcome thousands of visitors from around the world each year. We bring history alive through daily tours, our museum, library, archives, Cokesbury Gift Shop and this Web site.

But we are much more than just a shrine to the past. We are part of the resurgent community life of Old City, Philadelphia.

In these pages you will find information about our congregation and worship, sermons and sacraments, church news and activities. You will also find out about church tours, the museum, library and archive as well United Methodist history and values.

Warm greetings to all who visit here! We look forward to meeting you in person.

Fred Day, pastor
